Instant ice pack vs Re-useable ice packs
Instant ice packs are ideal for emergency and pitch side first aid. They can be carried in a kit bag for weeks and will still be cold when activated. Instant cold packs can be used for regular cold therapy treatment although we would normally recommend re-useable gel ice packs as they would stay colder for longer.
How long should I apply it for?
Ice packs can be applied for 10 to 15 minutes. It is usually recommended that a wet tea towel or similar is placed between the pack and the skin but the instant cold packs probably don’t get cold enough to burn but take precautions if you think you have sensitive skin.
How often should I apply cold packs?
Take advice from your physiotherapist but for most injuries cold can be applied for 15 minutes every hour or two in the early stages.
