Sciatica / Slipped disc / Prolapsed disc

What is Sciatica?

Sciatica is pain that starts in the back and radiates down one of the legs. It is quite a common complaint. This complaint is often caused by pressure on the sciatic nerve which runs down into the leg. There can be different causes of pressure, varying from a Slipped (Prolapsed) disk to muscle tension (Piriformis syndrome) or something less common such as a tumor, bony growths and infections.

The point at which you feel pain will depend on where the sciatic nerve is pinched. The pain can radiate to the front of the knee or right down the back of the leg to the foot.

How can you treat sciatica?

  • Rest (in bed if necessary, you may find that the psoas position is most comfortable).
  • Apply heat and have hot baths.
  • Use a heat retainer for the lower back.
  • Visit a sports injury specialist or doctor.

Useful Products:

  • Heat Therapy - to help ease pain and relieve muscle spasm.
  • Back Braces - help to retain warmth and support the back in the early stages.
