Cold Therapy

Cold therapy must be applied immediately following injury to help reduce pain and swelling. An instant ice pack is popular especially at the side of a pitch or training ground. They provide instant cold via a chemical reaction and are convenient to carry in any medical back or kit bag.

We have a range of cold therapy packs and wraps available to suit any budget from a simple reuseable hot and cold pack. We recommend the Coldone Cold Therapy Knee Wrap as it can combine compression and cold in one.

Knee Supports

A hinged knee brace has solid metal supports down the sides to provide a high level of support helping to protect the ACL and knee joint following injury. A number available which will provide excellent support for the joint and help protect the ACL including the McDavid 429 Hinged Knee Brace and the Mueller Hg80 Hinged Knee Brace, although these will not guarantee to protect the ACL in all circumstances.

Protecting the Anterior Cruciate Ligament specifically is difficult to do due to the very small amount of movement needed to damage or sprain it. The Donjoy Armour Hinged Knee Brace is designed specifically to do this and is at the high end of the price range.

Strengthening & Rehabilitation

Elastic rehabilitation bands of varying strengths are used as part of an ACL rehabilitation programme both before and following surgery to strengthen the muscles of the leg.

A wobble balance board is also useful for restoring proprioception (limb co-ordination) and ankle strength.
