Cold Therapy
Cold therapy should be applied immediately following injury to help reduce pain, swelling and bleeding. Instant ice packs are popular, especially at the side of a pitch or training ground. These provide instant cold via a chemical reaction and are very convenient.
We have a wide range of cold therapy packs and wraps available to suit any budget from a simple reuseable hot and cold pack, to the Coldone Cold Therapy Knee Wrap. This is our recommended product as it combines compression and cold in one!
Knee Supports
There are amyn types of knee support available although for a PCL injury, either a hinged brace or a stabilised one is recommend to help support the joint.
A hinged knee brace has solid metal hinges down the sides to provide a high level of support helping to protect the PCL and knee joint following injury. One of the most supportive and comfortable is the McDavid 429 Hinged Knee Brace. For those who are involved in contact sports, or where instability is minimal, a stabilised support has more lightweight metal springs or stays embedded in the sides of the support. A good example is the LP709a.
Strengthening & Rehabilitation
Elastic rehabilitation bands of varying strengths are used as part of a PCL rehabilitation programme both before and following surgery to strengthen the muscles of the leg.
A wobble balance board is also useful for restoring proprioception (limb co-ordination) and ankle strength. |
