What is the Biceps Long Head?

The Biceps muscle splits into two tendons at the shoulder - one short and one long. The long tendon runs over the humerus (upper arm bone) and attaches to the top of the scapula (shoulder blade). Inflammation of this tendon is a common complaint, particularly with swimmers, golfers, rowers, throwers and weight lifters.

Symptoms of an Inflamed Biceps Long Head

  • Pain at the front of the shoulder
  • Pain when lifting your arm out in front against resistance
  • Pain when pressing the tendon at the back of the shoulder

Please see the Virtual Sports Injury Clinic for more information on how to treat an Inflamed Biceps Long Head and other causes of shoulder pain.
