Inflammation of the rectus femoris tendon

What is the rectus femoris muscle?

Rectus femoris is the name of one of the muscles in the quads. This muscle is used to straighten the knee or lift the knee up. This muscle can rupture or become inflamed at the upper part where the muscle attaches to the hip. Kicking, sprinting and explosive movements can all cause this muscle to rupture and become inflamed.

What are the symptoms of this injury?

  • The front portion of the hip may be painful both during and after training.
  • Pressing the muscle at the top will be painful.
  • Pain when you lift the knee up or straighten the knee against resistance. A straight leg raise is also likely to cause pain.

Useful Products:

  • Cold Wraps - apply cold therapy to help relieve pain and inflammation.
  • Thigh Supports - provide support and compression to soft tissue and retains warmth.
