Fingers and Thumbs

The most common injury affecting the thumb is a sprain at the base, usually when it is bent backwards past the usual range of motion. In skiing this is very common when holding a pole and it is twisted against the thumb, known as Skiers Thumb. This can be protected with taping or a simple wrist and thumb support. Mallet finger is a condition which makes it difficult to straighten the end of the finger. A simple mallet finger splint can help by supporting the end of the finger.
